Agra Travel Guide with Luxury Stay recommendation

“मोहब्बत को नसीब अगर तेरा साथ हो जाए, मेरा छोटा सा आशियाना भी ताजमहल हो जाए।”

As an Indian, I have always felt proud that one of the seven wonders of the world lies here in our own country – The Taj Mahal.

The Taj is one of the crown jewels of our country. The grandeur and magnificence of this monument needs no introduction. The place apart from being a symbol of love is also an architectural marvel.

But Agra isn’t only about Taj. Besides Taj Mahal there are lots of other attractions which you should definitely check out. In today’s blog I will be sharing the perfect 2 day itinerary to Agra and Fatehpur Sikri.

How to reach Agra?

Airport –  The nearest airport to Agra is the Indira Gandhi International Airport, Delhi. The Agra airport is a military airbase which doesn’t connect it with any place in India.

Road – The best way to reach Agra is via road. The Yamuna Expressway is a dream to drive on. It takes around 4 hours to drive down and has tons of eating joints on the way. You can also takes a bus to reach Agra.

Train – Another easy and convenient way to reach Agra is via the train. There are two major railway stations – Agra Cantt and Agra Fort. It is one of the cheapest alternatives to reach this dreamy destination.

Where to stay?

Agra boosts of some beautiful luxury properties like The Oberoi Amarvilas, Trident, Courtyard by Marriott, ITC Mughal and more. While its not absolutely necessary to book a luxury stay here, I would recommend spending some extra bucks if your pocket allows!

I stayed at the ITC Mughal – A Luxury Collection Resort & Spa. The room costed about INR 20,000 a night with breakfast and dinner. Now that is a steep price but trust me this is one of the best properties I have ever stayed in my life! From the entrance to the lobby to the entire hotel, everything about this property is aesthetic. The property is 2 kms away from Taj Mahal and from the rooftop you can also spot the Taj. The hotel also has 2 swimming pools and 4 restaurants.

How to get around in Agra?

The best way of commuting around Agra is by your own car. However, if you have arrived via train or bus, then commuting through auto/e-rick is best. Don’t forget to bargain!

2 Day Travel Guide to Agra and Fatehpur Sikri

Day 1 - Explore Fatehpur Sikri

Buland Darwaza: The iconic Buland Darwaza is one of the prime attraction in Fatehpur Sikri. Also known as the “Door of Victory“, this massive structure stands at 54 meters from the ground. Its honestly breathtaking and the façade is magnificent. The entire complex opens up to a huge area which houses the Tomb of Salim Chishti.

I would recommend spending 2-3 hours to explore the entire complex.

Pro tip: Do hire a guide here who can take you through the history of the entire place. They are super cheap.

Entry fee – Free

Fun Fact: Some scenes of the famous Bollywood movie – Pardes were shot here!!

Jodha Bai Ka Roza

Jodha Bai’s Palace: The palace was constructed by Akbar in the honor of his beloved queen Jodha Bai. The Palace is a unique blend of Rajasthani, Mughal and Gujrati architecture. This place is super peaceful and I totally loved adoring the beautiful mahals and gardens.

Entry fee – INR 50 per person

Day 2 - Explore Agra

Taj Mahal: Begin your day super early to explore the beautiful and one of the seven wonders of the world – The Taj Mahal. If you are looking forward to clicking some pictures (with no crowd or relatively less crowd), try getting here half an hour before the opening time. As we all have read in our history lessons, this mausoleum is a symbol of love and is truly a beauty to behold!

You can book your tickets through the official website – Get your tickets here.

Adorned with beautiful gardens you will take about 2 hours to explore the entire area.

  6. It’s a nice piece of blog. You have truly done justice with Agra as most of the articles suggest merely a day for Agra. Actually, Agra can not be sumptuously explored in one day; it needs at least two full days to explore its historical monuments, artisans’ village, buzzing bazaars and scrumptious delicacies. One must go through it and plan a Agra tour accordingly.
